Starry Eyed

Yesterday we went to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory Open House Festival. Say that five times fast! Our friend Bob works there. He makes the enormous radio telescopes. He travels to Chili to install them, where our country has a big circle of them, called The Large Array. They put them there because the altitude is so high, it’s literally breathtaking. You need good lungs to go to Chili. The festival was fun. Among other things, we got to look through electron microscopes. Here you see some of the telescopes, and kids having fun with liquid nitrogen. You can see their little hands as they try to feel the icy smoke. Lots of giggles. The Hubble Telescope can see the Hourglass Nebula, which is 8,000 light years away. I wonder what God named this Nebula? Psalm 147:4 says “He determines the number of stars and calls them each by name.” When I look at the day or night sky, I can’t see any of the things these telescopes do, yet I see enough to be filled with wonder at our Creator, who “laid the cornerstone while the morning stars sang together and the angels shouted for joy.”
