Visit From A Fairy

Our granddaughter Anne Marie came over this evening, here are a few pictures from the visit. Here she is with Phil, who is wearing his Groucho face. She had put on a cat mask that I put in her treat bag. Her mom made the costume, she is a woodland fairy!!

Pumpkin Patch Through The Years

Come along with me and visit our granddaughter Anne Marie at the pumpkin patch through the years! All the pictures were taken by Anne's mom. Even through she's only five, I see such a big difference each year. She is a big girl now and not a baby or toddler anymore. Watching the growth of a child continues to be amazing to me. Snow!

This is what we woke up to today, snow!! As you can see, it broke my pet lilac bush! Since the trees still have their leaves, the weight of the snow on them caused many trees to fall, and this is why our power went out today. All this shortly after we had two eaqrthquakes and several aftershocks. The weather is just plain weird lately, to say it's surprising is an understatement. Guess we don't have to worry about a White Christmas, we've already had a White Halloween!

Seeing A Ghost

Monsters

We have had monsters in our house for quite some time! It's this monster bean bag toss game, actually a lot of fun to play! Here are our granddaughter Anne and Phil peeking through it. There was a shopping bag in our bedroom for quite a while, and whenever we put Ella down for a nap, she was scared a mummy would pop out of it.  So when she would go in the bedroom, she would say "Take care of the mummy problem", and we would remove the bag. Pleasant dreams ensued. In the last picture she is showing how a monster walks. She lunges from side to side with unbending knees and curled fingers. We all have monsters we are afraid of, whether tangible or not. Two of my tangible ones are spiders and heights, what are some of yours? There's one really big monster a lot of people are scared to death of, but we don't have to be anymore.

Pumpkins

Pumpkins of every sort abound all over our city now. No neighborhood or block is immune. I don't know who the dog or little girl are, they came to watch me take pictures of their house, a nice extra. Pumpkins originated in Central America, and here I had been thinking they were native to our country! They used to be recommended for removing freckles and curing snake bites. The largest pumpkin ever weighed 1,140 pounds. They are 90% water, and a member of the gourd family, but I still don't like them, I just can't eat them.


"One of the men went out into the field to get some herbs; he came across a wild vine and picked gourds from it, filling his gunnysack. He brought them back, sliced them up, and put them in a stew, even though no one knew what kind of plant it was. The stew was then served up for the men to eat. Waiting To Be Loved

Over the weekend, I snapped these pictures of dolls in an antique mall. I tried posting them in order of the oldest, but I'm not sure. The first one says 1884. Whenever I see dolls like this, I wonder about the children who owned them.  I think you can tell how much they loved the doll by how worn it is. If that is so, the third doll was greatly loved. I also wonder if the owner were still living, if she ever thinks of her long ago doll, and would buy her back if she could. There are dolls and stuffed animals from my past that I dearly wish I had now, how about you? So here they sit in a modern antique mall, watching everyone walk by, waiting to be loved. Something we will never have to do.
