Moody

If you were around in the sixties and seventies, you may remember Mood Rings. These were rings that would turn different colors depending on what mood you were in. Recently we were in a gift shop that had these mood rings with bats on them! Only a dollar! So I got one for me and one for a friend. We each wore them for a day, and they turned the exact same colors! So perhaps that means it depends more on the temperature than your mood. Still fun!

Oh, and they also came with this little color chart!

“After that, whenever the bad depression from God tormented Saul, David got out his harp and played. That would calm Saul down, and he would feel better as the moodiness lifted.”

Copper

Skinks are a type of lizard that spend most of their time either underground or up in trees. So I was really surprised to see this one as I came out of the garden center. There he was in the doorway, shining in the sun like copper. And he posed nicely for me till I was done taking pictures. This was the first time I have seen a pretty lizard.

lizards—easy enough to catch, but they sneak past vigilant palace guards.”

The Heat

Definition Of A Heat Wave - Three or more consecutive days with temperatures at least 90.

So much for three or more. We are in the middle of a two week heat wave. Today it was 100. Days when the curtains are kept closed, and you carry a water bottle everywhere. Mind you, I am not complaining. It is still better than winter! I snapped this sunset a few days ago. In an air conditioned car.

“You know that as soon as the sun rises, pouring down its scorching heat, the flower withers.”

Cats Who Made Bad Choices

I saw these on Facebook and just HAD to post it! I hope I have started your weekend with a laugh.

“My choice is you, God, first and only. And now I find I’m your choice!”

The Tigers

The Tiger Lilies are blooming now! I can spot them from a distance because they grow upside down. And I am in a picture; can you find me?

There is a legend that says a hermit once saved the life of a wounded tiger. In the afterlife, the tiger became a Tiger Lily, and he spread his flowers everywhere searching for the hermit, who had died. He followed him even after death.

Tiger, tiger burning bright
In the forests of the night
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

The Storm

This evening we watched the lightening from a storm in the distance. I was hoping for a sunset, but instead the sun shone on the storm clouds across from it.

And you all know what happens after a storm!

“I looked: I saw an immense dust storm come from the north, an immense cloud with lightning flashing from it, a huge ball of fire glowing like bronze.”
Ezekiel 1

Owls

The girls were over the other day and we made these owl cupcakes. I learned that even though I twist, I cannot separate an Oreo! Not to worry, Anne Marie did it perfectly.

“Owls will hoot in the windows, ravens will croak in the doorways— all that fancy woodwork now a perch for birds.”

After A Rain

This was the sunset earlier this week. For some reason, sunsets are much more beautiful right after it rains.

“Elijah said to Ahab, “Up on your feet! Eat and drink—celebrate! Rain is on the way; I hear it coming.”

Potty Break

Perhaps these people were renovating their bathroom? The tub is beautiful, but the potty is another thing altogether...

“My people will live in a peaceful neighborhood— in safe houses, in quiet gardens.”

Bike Wall

Welcome to the bicycles of Charlottesville! This mural was painted on a large curved wall beside a busy highway. It was painted by four artists and several volunteers, and it took four days. I see something different each time we pass it.

“Anyone who can read this writing on the wall and tell me what it means will be famous and rich—purple robe, the great gold chain—and be third-in-command in the kingdom.”

Forsythia!

The Forsythia are blooming now, and seem to scream joy and sunshine. Here are ones in town. This is our little one in the front yard. This ...
