Chinese Lanterns

When we saw this fruit in the store, it brought back memories. When Phil was a little boy, he and his friends would find them on the ground and eat them. I had never seen such a thing before!

Their correct name is Physalis, or Ground Cherries. But people call them Chinese Lantern Plants, Aztec Berry, Bladder Berry and many other names.

They are completely enclosed in a papery husk, and can be used in the same ways a tomato can. I think they are so cute!

“Then God said, “I’ve given you every sort of seed-bearing plant on Earth And every kind of fruit-bearing tree, given them to you for food. To all animals and all birds, everything that moves and breathes, I give whatever grows out of the ground for food.” And there it was.”

The Drumstick Dash

I had to laugh when I opened the paper and saw this chef chasing a man dressed as a turkey!
This is the annual Drumstick Dash. This race is in several southern states, and raises money for the Valley Rescue Mission. Here are some scenes from this year's race. Of course you should be dressed like a turkey. Or at least have a turkey hat!

Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way…”

The Path

I took this picture of a beautiful fall path. Then I thought it might look pretty edited different ways. So here are the different things I did with this one picture. Which is your favorite?

Giving Thanks

I wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday; full of warmth, thanks, and family. Right now, there are pumpkins everywhere! All different kinds and colors. I think some of you will be eating them in pies today! Here are some that impressed me.

    Enter His gates with thanksgiving

And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.

Burst

We were parked on the side of a road by a field. Waiting for the sunset, of course. And I saw these lovely weeds bursting into puff balls, spreading seeds everywhere. It may have been even better than the sunset.

Just for fun...

“And may The Strong God—may he give you his blessings, Blessings tumbling out of the skies, blessings bursting up from the Earth…”

The Flock

While we were waiting for the moon to come up, we had the mountains in front of us. They were especially beautiful and peaceful.

And then, hundreds of birds flew by. The line of them was so long that the end was not in sight. And they kept coming. They do this every night as they settle down to roost somewhere. And they must choose very safe beds, because I have never seen a sleeping bird in the wild. Have you?

God created the huge whales, all the swarm of life in the waters, And every kind and species of flying birds.

The Watcher

The other day, I spotted a red tailed hawk sitting on a low pole by the side of the road. We promptly turned around and drove into the parking lot where he was. We got quite close, but he didn't seem to care. He just sat there and posed for us. He was waiting for a tasty road kill dinner.

“Was it through your know-how that the hawk learned to fly, soaring effortlessly on thermal updrafts? Did you command the eagle’s flight, and teach her to build her nest in the heights, Perfectly at home on the high cliff face, invulnerable on pinnacle and crag? From her perch she searches for prey, spies it at a great distance. Her young gorge themselves on carrion; wherever there’s a roadkill, you’ll see her circling.”

Super Duper Moon

Tonight was the most Super of all moons! It will not be this big or close again till 2034! So of course I was excited! BUT I knew it was going to rain all day, so I snapped the night before (shhh, don't tell anyone). πŸŒ›

Nervous At Hobby Lobby

Next to our parked car at Hobby Lobby, we spotted these two cuties. They were clearly nervous and shaky. But then, when is a Chihuahua not ...
